BELJANSKA BARA NATURE PARK

Intro

Beljanska Bara is located in central Bačka, in the area of a unique space delimited by watercourses flowing into the Big Bačka Channel in the vicinity of the village of Turija. Its shallow and swinging course Beleljanka Bara is in a loess terrace of Bačka, 39 km long. The area of Beljanska BAra has largely retained the former characteristics of the flora and fauna. Beljanska Bara represents one of the preserved wetlands, which is indicated by the presence of numerous species of flora and fauna of water, wetlands and wet salt habitats, and rare habitats of low land peat. This area is distinguished by the richness of the fish population, and is of particular importance for breeding and migration of birds in the area of the Vojvodina region. Exceptional natural value is preserved in the indigenous fish species. The water level of Beljanska Bara represents an ecological corridor which, through the Big Bačka Canal, enables the communication of land and water species in wetlands with an international eco-corridor – the Tisa River.
