THE CHURCH OF ASCENSION OF OUR LORD – ČURUG

Intro

The church was built on 25th September 1858, and it had only one tower. Afterwards lower towers, 32m high, were built, which together with the central one, 55m high, represented a harmonious whole. The church was consecrated by his Eminence Bishop Platon in 1862. The iconostasis, which has a great artistic value, is the work of a famous painter Đorđe Krstić. The big bell with the sound of “Cons G”, which is decorated by relief of St. George, is considered the biggest on the Balkans.
