GLAVAŠ HOUSE, VRANJEVO, NOVI BEČEJ

Intro

In 1834, Vladimir Glavaš was born to a wealthy Vranjevo family. He helped the national struggle of Serbs in Austro-Hungarian Empire, was a benefactor and honorary member of Matica Srpska. He has completed his law studies in Prague, but due to his moral principles, he will abandon his practice of law. He will bestow his house and the largest part of the estate to the church with the remark that it would be desirable for the house to be used as an office and a council of the church municipality, and not as a school because it will not have "a female live in the house." Glavaš house is under the protection of the state. It is managed by the municipality today. After works and restoration, on the centenary of the death of Vladimir Glavaš (2009), the first New Bečej Museum was opened here. In honor of the great composer Josif Marinkovic, originally from Vranjevac, one of the rooms in the Glavas's house became Marinkovic's memorial room.
