Lake Fehér - Szatymaz - The Pusztaszer Nature Reserve

Intro

Lake Fehér lying north to Szeged used to be the third biggest natural lake and largest contiguous sodic land area in the country. Documents mentioned it already in 1075. Its territory was flooded by Tisza from time to time. In 1930 they started transforming Lake Fehér into a fishpond system. In 1939, the territory - being an important point in bird migration - was placed under national protection. Birds of increased protection are spoonbills, red herons, and little and big egrets.
