Having become a protected area during the 1990s, in 1999 the Makó-Landor Forests became part of the wood and grassland of the national park accompanying the River Maros. In 2000 the 61-hectare Szeged-Tápé Flood Plain was named the Maros Flood Plain Woodland Reserve.
