Maros river

Intro

The Maros River originates in the Eastern Carpathians at Marosfő and reaches the Hungarian border after seven hundred kilometers. From its entry into Hungary, it reaches 50 kilometers to the mouth of Szeged, 21 kilometers as a border river with Romania. The large fall (27 cm / km) and therefore very fast running and plenty of sediment rolling, which is still unpredictable and whimsical in the process of shaping the river, creates a direct link between mountain and flatland flora and fauna. For its Hungarian section, it has 227 square kilometers of catchment area, with its romantic, mostly natural floodplain forests, valuable for its flora and fauna. The protected areas are managed by the Körös-Maros National Park Directorate.
