SENTA BATTLE MEMORIAL

Intro

The original monument was created on the occasion of the visit of Emperor Francis Joseph I to Senta in 1895. The city was visited for a military parade held on the banks of the Tisa river at the location of the Senta Battle. The monument was made in the workshop of the famous sculptor Janoš Fišer and Sons. The top of the monument is adorned by the figure of the torso of a knight in the armor, with a sword and other weapons, and the stand is a cannon from this battle. After a few years, these elements disappeared from the monument, and in 1942, the original memorial plaque was changed and the present one fitted.
The monument was placed in its current location in 1992, at the Tisa Quay. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the battle (1897), the statue of Eugene of Savoy on the horse was ordered, but Senta did not take it because of the excessive price, so that the statue remained in Budapest, where it was placed in front of the Buda Fortress. For the 300th anniversary of the battle, based on the plans of the architect Zoltan Valkai, a bell tower was added to the monument and an element similar to a boat.
