KARAS CASTLE

Intro

The castle was built according to the plan of an unknown Vienna architect in the style of the provincial Baroque in 1795 for the needs of the heir to Count Antal Miklos Karas, who founded the town of Horgos. The building is ground level with a base in the shape of a Cyrillic letter G whose last part is the main building, and the courtyard is most likely a later addition. A wide staircase and porch provide access to a representative shorter part of the building. General appearance and details of the castle of the Karas family make it a building with clear Baroque features. After the Second World War, the castle was used as a school, but today it has no purpose and is in a very bad condition. Although in a very bad condition, the castle is a cultural monument of great importance.
