ARAČA – NOVI BEČEJ

Intro

The medieval village of Arača is located on the southern shore of Crna Bara. The remains of the original one-nave church are from the end of the 11th and the beginning of the 12th century. The Arača Stone was found at this location at the end of the XIX century, and today it is located in Budapest. There is a carved representation of the church, a priest and donor on it. By building a monumental three-nave basilica, the remains or the foundations of this early church are positioned in the middle nave of the basilica. The Basilica was built in the first half of the 13th century, at the time of Bela IV. The monastery was founded and built in the last quarter of the 15th century. The remains of the monastery show years are marked by the Turkish incursions. Turks occupy it in 1551. The settlement is also mentioned in the 17th century.
