Burial Structures

Intro

In the southern border of Kiszombor - within a circle of about one kilometer - there are three quadruple cemeteries each. These areas stand out from the flat area in a hilly way and are water-free, so, as the explorations have shown, several groups living in successive ages chose them as burial grounds. In one area, prehistoric, gepida, Avar and conquering Hungarian tombs were found above each other, and in the other two places only two people - Avar and Hungarians of the Conquest - buried.
The archaeologists arrived at the cemeteries in accordance with the instructions of Ferenc Móra and on a cadastral map prepared in 1927.
The burial buildings on the outskirts were protected by monuments.
