TOWN HALL – SENTA

Intro

On April 16, 1911, the old Town Hall and Church of St Stephen at the central square burnt down. The building commission then came to the conclusion that the building was so damaged that the reconstruction was not possible, and the Assembly decided to build a new town hall. It is possible that, after this decision, the intention was for Senta to compete with the city of Subotica and Kanjiža halls built at that time. 15 projects were received for the contest, and the first prize went to the work of Kovács Frigyes, architect from Budapest under the motto "XX century". After the changes to the plan that the city requested, the construction of the monumental building began in the late autumn of 1912. The works were completed in 1914. The building, built in the style of Secession overlooks the main square and represents the most imposing building in Senta whose massive tower dominates the panorama of the city. The gallery of a unique, beautifully decorated staircase, ornaments in the hallway and the Assembly Hall are also outstanding examples of secession. The highest level, a tower almost 50 meters high, provides an amazing view of the city and its surroundings. The memorial vista of the Senta Battle is located here too.
